Free iPad loans for Powys people
October 13, 2022

People throughout Powys are being offered the opportunity to borrow an iPad for free, thanks to support from the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government ’s Circular Economy Fund.

The iPads are available to any member of Powys County Council's Library Service - which is free to join. And anyone who lives, works or is studying in Powys can join the library.

The North Powys Wellbeing Programme is also backing the scheme as it chimes with one of its aims - enabling more people to take part in virtual health consultations (ie taking part in a video call with a health specialist who is in a different location.)

The 'internet ready' iPads are available to people over the age of 18 to borrow for four weeks at a time. Each iPad holds a sim card with a mobile data allowance for anyone without a home Wi-Fi connection.

To find out more, or to request an iPad, please contact your local library in person, call the Library Line on 01874 612394 or email library@powys.gov.uk

Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for a Prosperous Powys, Cllr. David Selby said: "We are pleased to be helping residents get online, and improve their digital skills, by offering these iPads for free.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone needing to get online - whether for work or study, do some online shopping or take part in a virtual health consultation - to do so without the expense of buying their own equipment and with technical support on hand.”

"For anyone who hasn't used an iPad or mobile device before, our librarians are on hand to get you started and are available by phone or in person throughout your loan."

Tim Smith, Bwrdd Iechyd Addysgu Powys / Powys Teaching Health Board's Lead Digital Facilitator is leading the North Powys Wellbeing Programme’s Digital Engagement and Health Literacy Programme. He commented: “There are many health services which we feel can be delivered safely and effectively online but for some people there are barriers to taking part in this.

“One of these barriers is the lack of a smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC. So, to help with this, we’re delighted that this loan service is available.”
